We are currently looking for a Staff Process Engineer —Water Treatment
Specific responsibilities will include:
  • As the successful candidate, you will be providing technical expertise and leadership in all areas of water treatment and handling. Areas of focus will include: waste water and produced water treatment and de-oiling, boiler feed water conditioning, refinery desalter and overhead process chemical application and offshore water handling and disposal applications. You will work closely with our facilities and project staff in the design of water treatment and water handling facilities. You will also work closely with operations staff to maximize facility throughputs, reduce operating costs and support facility trouble shooting, turnarounds and other operational issues.
  • Coordinating the design of project specific water treatment facilities and operation
  • Providing input on current water treatment technologies and keeping abreast on advancements on water treatment technologies
  • Supporting procurement group on their Corporate Chemical Assessment Team initiatives on production and process chemicals
  • Participating as a key member of the water treatment and waste water disposal facility commissioning and start-up team
  • Providing operations support for development of the water treatment /steam generation maintenance programs and troubleshooting efforts
  • Coordinating water treatment pilot projects and related technology development applications
  • Providing input into operating and capital budget preparation in areas related to water handling and treatment
  • Providing technical expertise and leadership in all areas of water treatment and handling (waste water, produced water, boiler feed water)
  • Work with Project group, especially during Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) and provide fit for purpose water treatment design to optimize project capital and operating cost etc
  • Working closely with the Corporate Chemical Assessment Team on their implementation of chemical treatment program in Western Canada
  • Working closely with operations on troubleshooting, support facility turnarounds and optimize production efficiencies
  • Coordinating the design of project specific water treatment facilities and operation
  • Coordinating water treatment pilot projects and related technology development applications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry
  • Certified Engineering Technologist specialized in water treatment
  • Master Degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer registered with APEGGA or with APEGS or APEO
  • Minimum of ten years providing technical expertise and leadership in all areas of water treatment and handling (waste water, produced water, injection water, boiler feed water)
  • Minimum of five years specializing in boiler feed water treatment and facility design
  • Being well versed in current water treatment technologies and keep abreast of advancements in the technology (Mechanical Vapour Recompression evaporation (MVR), Warm Lime Softening (WLS), Reverse Osmosis, Ceramic Membranes, Ion Exchange using WAC/SAC resins, Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) etc).
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and apply new water treatment technologies
  • Minimum of five years specializing in water treatment for thermal or SAGD oil sands operations
  • Minimum of five years experience in waste water and Boiler Feed Water treatments and related facility designs experience
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise in bitumen/water separation and de-oiling
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise in SAGD steam generation technology
  • Minimum of five years specializing in offshore water treatment and disposal considered an asset
  • Extensive knowledge and plant experience in water treating, steam generation and thermal reservoir processes
  • Demonstrated major project water treatment experience
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise in the application of water treatment chemicals for BFW conditioning
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise in the application of water treatment chemicals, process chemicals and production chemicals for refining and thermal oil/water separations
  • Extensive water treatment HAZOP, Process Hazard Analysis and facilitator skills
