Job Summary

Husky is currently looking for a Instrumentation Reliability Manager for our Lima, Ohio Refinery. 


The Instrumentation Reliability Manager serves as a site technical resource SME and leader of the Instrumentation/SIS group as will provide leadership to the Reliability Engineering team to drive continuous improvement in the areas of asset reliability, asset availability and customer service in conjunction with Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance.  


Core Responsibilities

  • The Reliability Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring that the systems, processes, personnel, data, tools, metrics, and programs are in place and function such that reliability, availability and excellent customer service are all performing effectively and efficiently to deliver on company goals
  • Works with Project Engineering to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified instrumentation and systems.
  • Participates in the development of design and installation specifications along with commissioning plans.
  • Participates in the development of criteria for and evaluation of equipment and technical AML suppliers and technical maintenance service providers. Develops acceptance tests and inspection criteria
  • Participates in the final check out of new installations. This includes factory and site acceptance testing that will assure adherence to functional specifications.
  • Guides efforts to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, controls, and safety/security systems as pertaining to the Instrumentation department.
  • Responsible for and guides the development of an asset care Plan that includes value-added preventive maintenance tasks and effective utilization of predictive and other non-destructive testing methodologies designed to identify and isolate inherent reliability problems
  • Develops engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations
  • Subject Matter Expert for all Instrumentation/Analyzer Systems keeping up with current developments and trends in area of expertise, applying knowledge and skills to help achieve business goals.
  • Participate in hazard risk analysis including Hazard and Operability Reviews (HAZOP) and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA).
  • Review of instrumentation, PLC, and SIS designs and installations by project engineering.
  • Oversight of critical instrumentation program.



  • 3-5 years of experience with process instrumentation systems is an asset
  • 3-5 years of Supervisory experience is an asset
  • 3-5 years of direct experience with SIS and PLC systems is required
  • 1-5 years of knowledge / experience with DCS hardware and system is required
  • 1-5 years of experience with process / environmental analyzers is required
  • 3-5 years experience specifying, designing, installing, and commissioning instrumentation systems is required
  • 3-5 years of basic refinery operations experience and hands on approach to design and problem solving is required
  • Good PC skills and proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Computer Programming and PLC Programming
  • Experience in providing field support and participating in check out, commissioning, and start-up of process analyzer installations
  • Knowledge: well versed in the fundamentals of process automation, instrumentation, electrical engineering and analyzer technology
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (written and oral)
  • Possess a strong desire to learn, strengthen and build skills, and keep up with analyzer technology, appropriate standards, codes and environmental regulations as they apply to analyzers
  • Basic electronics
  • Basic electricity
  • Proficient in SAP or other Business Enterprise Software


Education & Professional Designations

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical or Instrumentation
  • Project Management Professional is an asset
  • Professional Engineering License is an asset


Working Conditions

  • You may be required to work in a wide variety of conditions due to the nature of the operation (working at heights, in confined spaces, with noise, in extreme weather conditions)
