Job Summary
This position is integral to the successful restart of the $1B Superior Refinery Rebuild project and will lead the management of the Distributed Control System (DCS) after the refinery starts up. This position is in the refinery Technical Services group and will be the lead for all DCS related issues.

 

The Process Controls Engineer will work collaboratively with and provide technical expertise and guidance to project leaders to ensure changes affecting the DCS are safely designed, installed and meet the necessary requirements of regulatory bodies.

 

The position is the technical authority on automation control standards and design including the DCS network architecture design with cyber security monitoring and safeguarding and Operational Technology/Information Technology - Management Information System design and approval.

 

This position will work closely with the Instrument Maintenance team and the Controls Technician to support day to day operations and maintenance. In addition, the position will support plant alarm management lifecycle, Management of Change activities as well as Operator Training System design and support.


Core Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing, maintaining Plant DeltaV DCS hardware and software and monitoring the system performance
  • Responsible for providing technical/troubleshooting support to day-to-day maintenance & operations including loop tunings, instrumentation functionality as well as project development and management
  • Work together with process engineer(s) to develop advanced control system and/or process optimization system to maximize the plant profits and safe operating windows
  • Provides support to PI Historian
  • Ensure DeltaV Safety Implemented Systems are supported
  • Ensure Cyber Security Standards are followed
  • Approve Automation Control , IT/OT Interface Solutions
  • Accountable for  Automation control solutions, documentations, standards, Best Practices and capture Lessons Learned
  • Attend and contribute Risk Assessment and HAZOP studies

 
Experience

  • Experienced Instrument/Electrical Technician or Technologist is required
  • 10+ years' experience in digital control system management within heavy industry
  • PLC and SCADA knowledge
  • Other Application Interfaces with IT-OT-MIS space
  • DCS Project Design, Management  and Commissioning experience
  • Process Control Optimization experience, Analytical and Alarm Management
  • Previous oil and gas related experience or refining / petrochemical experience
  • Understanding of basic project management fundamentals, project economics, support and execution
  • Demonstrated computer skills in process modeling software, Microsoft office and other database type applications. Proven capability to explore and learn new programs.
  • Strong attention to detail with a demonstrated ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication and leadership skills


Education & Professional Designations

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical/Electrical Engineering recognized by ABET - with process control emphasis is required
  • Professional Member (PE) registered with State of WI DSPS is an asset
  • Any other certification s like CAP , Cyber Security is an asset
