Job Summary

The Process Control Systems Technologist/Engineer maintains Cybersecurity of the Process Controls network.  Technologist/Engineer also provides Industrial Controls System support and manages the network administration.   This position works closely with others in the Controls group, Operations, Process Engineering and other maintenance personnel. 

 

The Process Control Systems Technologist/Engineer also provides after-hours maintenance for the Industrial Controls Systems network hardware and software, including DCS hardware and software.  The engineer may have a lead or supporting role during Plant Turnarounds.

 

Core Responsibilities

  • Industrial Controls Systems Cybersecurity

  • Management of hardware, software and access inventory

  • Manage WSUS and EPO systems.

  • Patch management for the ICS network (Windows and applications). Reviews patches for criticality, develops patching strategy, ensure patching compliance

  • Manage system backup configuration, implementation and verification

  • User account management

  • Backup and recovery of system hardware and software

  • Disaster recovery and business continuity planning

  • Management of cybersecurity audits and evaluation of cybersecurity metrics

  • Oversee methodologies to identify and assess cybersecurity risk throughout the site life cycle (e.g. capital projects, operate and maintain, periodic cyber hazard & vulnerability revalidations

  • Manage Process Controls Applications

  • Ensure that they run reliably

  • Troubleshoot any issues

  • Install patches as needed

  • Manage licenses and upgrade schedules

  • Responsible for upgrades

  • Manage the Industrial Controls System network domains

  • Assist with troubleshooting of network hardware, system and application software.  Includes occasional after-hours on-site support.

  • Assist with installation and configuration of network devices, including switches, routes and firewalls. 

  • Participates in the review of justification for the addition of new connections or expansion of the Industrial Controls System network.

  • Supports design of networks - works with end users to determine access of data from networks and how data will be transferred securely.

  • Communication and Documentation

    • Provide high-quality written documentation on Network Architecture drawings, zone and conduit drawings, software installation and usage documentation.

    • Provide Process Controls team with documentation on system and software implementation and Refinery users with documentation of access to applications.

    • Effective preparation and delivery of presentations including good facilitation skills.

  • Interact with contractor(s), providing direction, support and feedback as necessary to accomplish departmental and company goals and objectives.

    • Establish and maintain good working relationships.

  • Responsible for following all safety policies and guidelines as established by Husky Energy and the LRC.

    • Participate in or lead Process Safety Management (PSM) meetings (MOC, HAZOP, High level and detailed risk assessments, Job Cyber Analysis, etc.).

    • Maintain a clean and safe work environment including active participation in monthly Safety Meetings.

  • Work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of personnel at the Lima Refinery, establishing and maintaining good interpersonal relationships to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals.

 

Experience

  • 5 yrs of Network Administration, programming, and/or information systems security

  • Honeywell Systems Software Management (PHD, Experion)

  • Industrial Control Systems Cybersecurity Lead

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience directly related to Industrial Controls Systems networks.

  • Participation in MOC and Hazop reviews

  • Honeywell System (Network) Management

  • Developing capital and expense budgets

  • Excellent technical skills and experience in:

    • Windows Network Administration (Active Directory & DNS)

    • Cisco switches and networking

    • WSUS and Antivirus software

    • Backup software (Acronis preferred)

  • Network Monitoring software (Solarwinds preferred)

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills

  • Working knowledge of

  • Honeywell PHD

  • PI OSI

  • Alarm Management Systems

  • Working knowledge of

  • Industrial Control System Network

  • IEC 62443-2-1, IEC 62443-2-4, and IEC 62443-3-3 cyber standards

  • ISA TR84.00.09

  • IEC 61511 functional safety standard

  • IEC 62682 alarm management standard

  • Current ICS cyber threat landscape

  • Working knowledge of management of Honeywell and Cisco networks in an Industrial Controls System environment

  • Working knowledge of Process Control application software such as process historian and alarm management

  • Ability to determine work priorities by evaluating the relative risk of problems and benefits of implementing improvements.

  • Well-developed communication and presentation skills to clearly convey both factual and conceptual information requiring detailed explanation and interpretation to staff, professional and business groups.  This includes written and verbal communication.

  • Possess superior analytical skills to identify key issues based on relevant data and provide appropriate solutions/recommendations.

  • Proven ability to work in a team environment dealing with people from various disciplines to achieve goals, and to identify and resolve problems.

 

Education & Professional Designations

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Engineering Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Engineering Technology or Controls is required.
  • Cisco CCNA Certification

  • CompTIA Security Certificate

  • CSP (IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Practitioner) Certification

  • CACS Certified Automation Cybersecurity Specialist

  • CACE Certified Automation Cybersecurity Expert

 

Working Conditions

  • You may be required to work in a wide variety of conditions due to the nature of the operation (working at heights, in confined spaces, with noise, in extreme weather conditions).
  • The position will require being on-call.
