Senior Supervisor, Thermal Operations – Edam & Vawn

 

We are currently recruiting for a Sr Supervisor to join our Thermal Operations team at a Thermal SAGD Facility in the Lloydminster District (rural Saskatchewan, Edam and Vawn). Reporting to the Superintendent, Thermal Operations, this position will be responsible for meeting all facility targets such as Safety, Production, Costs and Reliability as well as responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the facility ensuring it meets all the standards and expectations of our High Reliability Organizational culture.

 

The incumbent will be highly motivated focusing on meeting facility key performance indicators (KPIs), managing operating costs and budgets, providing leadership and mentorship to all levels of staff as well as building and maintaining both internal and external relationships

 

Work Environment:

Travel is required as the facilities are based in rural Saskatchewan, Edam and Vawn areas approx. 50 to 80km from North Battleford, SK.  Work purpose company vehicle is provided.  Work schedule is comprised of an 8-hour day, 5 on/2 off, Monday to Friday (40 hour work week).

 

Relocation to surrounding area of North Battleford and/or Edam, SK is preferred

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all facility operation activities are carried out in a safe, efficient and environmentally responsible manner.  Responsible to ensure the facility’s operation is following all health, safety and environmental laws and regulations.  Accountable to ensure all facility inspections, audits and exercises are completed.
  • Provide leadership to effectively manage workforce and maximize team effectiveness.  Coach and mentor direct and indirect reports and provide regular feedback through one-on-one meetings, observations in the workplace, and in meetings.
  • Lead and/or participate in Incident Investigations, Briefs, De-briefs and Critiques and ensure lessons learned are managed and distributed within the Facility and Business Unit if necessary 
  • Develop effective working relationships with other work groups within the Company including Surface Land, Engineering, Projects, Well Servicing etc. as well as with all external stakeholders.
  • Ensure accuracy and timely reporting of all operations records (e.g. volume balances, log sheets, work permits, and required reports). Develop and communicate plant status reports as required.
  • Participate and/or lead Emergency response exercises or Emergency response situations as required.
  • Champion and comply with High Reliability Organization standards and expectations

 

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in oil and gas industry such as a petrochemical refinery, upgrader or SAGD operations (experience in other industries such as Pulp and Paper or Power Generation will be considered)
  • Minimum 4th Class Power Engineering certificate of competency with 3rd Class or higher preferred
  • Experience in SAGD Process, Steam and Production Well operation would be an asset
  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience. 
  • Ability to lead in a team environment.
  • Experience with SAP (evaluate work requests and assign priorities) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, email, power point) would be an asset
  • Skilled level of understanding on safety standards and procedures i.e. equipment isolation, safe work permitting and hazard analysis.
  • Skilled level of understanding on regulatory standards and procedures (knowledge of Company policies and reporting procedures would be an asset)
  • Skilled level of understanding of processes and associated control systems including PLC (programmable logic control) and DCS (distributed control system).
  • Skilled level of written and verbal communication skills
  • Possess strong mechanical aptitude skills and solid understanding of operating equipment.
  • Assets:
    • Power Engineering or Technical School (1 or 2yr. program).
    • 1st or 2nd Class Power Engineering Certificate of Competency.
  • Excellent decision making and trouble shooting skills
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Able to multi-task and work in a high workload environment
  • Class 5 drivers’ license.  For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver’s license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver’s abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the Pre-employment Screening for the final candidate.
  • As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

  • A valid, clean Class 5 Driver’s license is required.
