About this opportunity:

The Environmental Advisor, Remediation, Waste & Wetlands is responsible for facility wide oversight of spill prevention, reporting and remediation, stormwater management, waste management and wetlands.  This position ensures that all compliance controls, monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting requirements related to these specific areas of environmental responsibility are satisfied.  It is expected that the roles and responsibilities of this position will change over time to support departmental resilience, succession planning and personal career growth.  Cross training and career advancement opportunities could include air compliance, wastewater compliance, various permitting efforts, regulatory inspections, and regulatory enforcement actions.


This position is located at our refinery in Superior, WI

  • Report new spills to the appropriate regulatory oversight agencies and coordinate cleanup efforts, site investigation activities (if necessary) and complete follow up reporting required to achieve site closure or conditional site closure.
  • Provide oversight of open remediation sites and direct next steps to achieve site closure or conditional site closure
  • Provide oversight for the Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures Plan (SPCC)
  • Provide oversight for the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP)
  • Manage the accumulation and disposal of solid waste, hazardous waste and universal waste including manifesting and transportation for day-to-day operations as well as process unit turnarounds and shutdowns (planned or unplanned).
  • Perform periodic inspections and audits of water and waste programs to document and correct any identified deficiencies.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Federal and State of Wisconsin wetlands regulations including permitting, temporary impacts and wetland fill projects.
  • Provide wetland compliance support to pending and/or proposed OPEX/CAPEX projects including regulatory compliance requirements, potential wetland mitigations, potential impacts for constructability and anticipated permitting timelines.
  • Cross train as a backup for the other Environmental Advisor positions that would include all responsibilities associated with air & wastewater releases and reporting including being on call for environmental incidents and related issues.


Note: This position agrees with and has adopted the major elements of the COIMS program with respect to the way in which all work is undertaken in this Business Unit.



  • B.S. Degree Engineering or related Science degree
  • MS Degree in Engineering or related Science Degree considered an asset
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of environmental engineering or related experience.
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP), Registered Environmental Manager (REM) or other environmental certification
  • Professional Engineer License
  • Minimum of 0-5 years of direct petrochemical environment experience
  • 0-5 years of Petrochemical Experience
  • 3-5 years of Waste/Remediation Experience
  • 0-5 years of Petrochemical Process Experience
  • Advanced level experience with MS Office Applications
  • Experience with SAP or other business enterprise software
  • Experience with Environmental Management System (ISO14001/Intelex/Enablon acceptable)
