About this opportunity:

The Senior Labor Relations Advisor provides Leadership and advice relative to the interpretation and implementation of the collective bargaining agreement to the Superior management team, HR staff, SRC employees and Cenovus leadership. This position is responsible for implementing local labor policies and deliverables in collaboration and aligned with broader corporate Labor Relations' priorities and strategy. 

 

The Senior Labor Relations Advisor  is accountable to manage and implement labor relations programs for the site; supporting the negotiating of the area collective bargaining agreement;  managing the contractual grievance procedures; and providing advice to Management staff to ensure compliance with the contract  The Senior Labor Relations Advisor  is also responsible to identify solutions and build local strategies to proactively manage and enhance the broader relationship with the local union executive and resolve barriers that are preventing continued enhancement of union/management relations.   

 

This position is located at our Superior, WI Refinery

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a link between management and represented employees and the local union executive
  • Responsible for handling questions, interpreting, and administering the collective bargaining agreement and policies to assist in the resolution of Union/Management work-related problems
  • Provides consultation, subject matter expertise and guidance specific to employee and labor relations issues or situations and matters related to the administration of the contract, employee performance and grievance procedures
  • Ensure workplace policies and programs regarding represented workers are consistent across the organization as required and are fair, equitable and are aligned to the collective bargaining agreement. Provides clarification to labor issues that arise and serves to identify and resolve underlying concerns that are hampering the progression of the union/management relationship
  • Provide collective agreement governance and oversight to support the adherence to the labor agreement
  • Actively participated and supports the development of the collective bargaining mandate by leading the research and development
  • Participate through negotiation periods and support the development of contract proposals and counterproposals
  • Intervenes to resolve contractual disputes between represented and salary personnel
  • Proactively manages both individual and group disputes prior to, or through, the grievance procedure and including arbitration proceedings, as required
  • Partner with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure Cenovus is best positioned to successfully defend grievance and arbitration proceedings
  • Utilize strong professional written and oral communication skills in addressing the collective bargaining agreements and employee relations issues

 

Qualifications:

  • BS or BA degree in business, management, psychology, or related discipline required
  • Master's degree in Business, Industrial Relations, or related discipline an asset
  • PHR or SPHR certification an asset
  • Minimum of 8 years of related experience in Labor Relations with experience as a HR generalist required
  • Broad knowledge of HR theory, principles, practices, and policies
  • Supervisory experience an asset
  • Ability to take complex HR issues and problems, develop an action plan for working problems, and issues to a conclusion and providing recommendation for moving forward required
  • Experience with SAP, Workday (or similar HRIS) an asset
  • Experience in Petrochemical Industry an asset
