Job Summary
The Sr. Technical Advisor is primarily responsible for ensuring the smooth and effective functioning of training events and special projects. This involves marketing, planning and execution of regular training programs, as well as assistance in planning for and facilitating short, one-time trainings or other training programs.

Core Responsibilities

  • Owner of the site-wide training and release plan for operators.  Work with ops superintendents and the scheduler to ensure timely and effective training. 
  • Champion site-wide unit simulator program and ensure effective use of dynamic simulators.  Represent operations in evaluating and developing new training opportunities and technologies.
  • Champion and ensure execution of the site-wide alarm management program, schedule task team meetings as needed to address alarm issues at each board, create action items to address
  • Track and ensure operations personnel are up to date with current mandatory training requirements, Active Learner, DOT, ERT, Stationary Steam License, 3-year refresher etc.  Schedule training as needed to maintain compliance.
  • Partner with the Talent Acquisition Specialist to execute operations new hire testing and interviews.  Develop new hire training syllabus with Safety, PSM, Process Engineering, shift organization and area teams.  Coordinate execution of this training with the appropriate subject matter experts.
  • Develop and distribute key learning opportunities for the shift organization, tracking proper completion of these items.  Develop a library of topics to distribute and ensure trainings are included in Operations' onboarding process.  Work with area teams and RSS's to increase effectiveness of area team logs, ensure best practices are used site wide and proper information is passed on to the shift organization.
  • Be a champion in helping develop the Operations group into a high reliability organization.  Develop and distribute key learnings from after action reviews, and catalog relevant pre-job huddles for future use. Audit procedure compliance, procedure updates, operator refresher requirements safety meeting compliance, training manual relevancy etc.



  • Maintenance/Operations credibility

  • Experience with SAP or other business enterprise software
  • Presentation skills - has proven effectiveness in a variety of formal presentation settings; commands attention and can manage group process during the presentation
  • Written Communications - is able to write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles; can get messages across that have the desired effect
  • Facilitation skills experience and willingness to teach

  • Locate and comprehend technical and regulatory documents


Education & Professional Designations

  • Bachelor Degree or minimum of seven years of Refinery Operations experience.
  • Certified Safety Trainer
  • Train the Trainer
  • Technical Writing Certificate - Documenting policies and procedures
